EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy technique designed for working with distressing or traumatic memories. The theory behind EMDR is that many psychological difficulties are the result of distressing life experiences which have not been stored into long term memory properly and are instead unprocessed or blocked. These traumatic memories may need some help to become processed, and EMDR is one way to do this.

Play Therapy

Play therapy takes the hard word of child psychotherapy in the fun guise of play. Since children learn, think, and process differently than adults, it is important to give a child a means to process their experiences in a way that works for their brains. Play therapy has adapted its methods for communicating symbolically with the child.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a common type of talk therapy that identifies negative patterns or behaviors so that you can learn how to respond in healthy ways and manage your emotions effectively. This form of therapy can be used alone or with other therapies when treating post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, OCD, and much more. With your clinician’s guidance, you will learn how your thoughts affect your feelings and your actions, how distorted thinking can cause anxiety, sadness, anger or depression.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy, or DBT) is a therapy approach originally developed for the treatment of suicidal behaviors. It has since expanded to treatment of borderline personality disorder and other severe and complex mental disorders involving serious emotion dysregulation.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR is a blend of meditation, body awareness, and yoga. Through practice and study, you can learn how your body handles (and can resolve) stress neurologically.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) / Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM)/Parts Work

A new, empowering paradigm for understanding and harmonizing the mind and the system as a whole. This modality promotes healing from a place of self compassion.  A core component of Parts work is that every adaptive behavior has a positive intent, even if its actions or effects are counterproductive or cause dysfunction. This means that there is never any reason to fight with, coerce, or try to eliminate aspects or one self.

Parts can have either extreme roles or healthy roles. IFS focuses on parts in extreme roles because they are in need of transformation through therapy. IFS divides these parts into three types—managers, exiles, and firefighters.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is an evidenced base attachment therapy for couples. EFT is a form of short-term therapy that aims to improve couple relationships by rekindling the physical and emotional bond that can get sacrificed to disappointment in a partner and alienation from them, a common dynamic in distressed couples. If there is a motto for EFT, it is: “Hold me tight.”
